Artist Bio

I am Marlene Davis, retired visual arts teacher having spent 34+ years in the classroom. I received my Bachelor of Arts degree from Converse College, Spartanburg, SC, and Masters studies from Lander College, Furman University, and Savannah College of Art and Design. My career started as a volunteer art teacher with Union County School District and as an adjunct facility position at USC-Union campus. During my career I have taught in four South Carolina school districts, and have taught many workshops and classes in various art media around the state.

Printmaking and pen and ink drawings are my favorite media. But I love working with mixed media as well.

I am married to Myrtle Beach native, Sam Davis, and together we have 4 children, 9 grandchildren, and 1 greatgrand child  in our blended family.

Artist Statement

My inspiration for my artwork is from my years growing up. It wasn’t a very pleasant time. Images I use tend to be dark, foreboding, but also have meaning in life. When looking at my work I do tend to more black and white images. Color sometimes has no meaning for me. When I work as an artist or teach I forget my self and just have fun with my students. No more dark side!
