Jewel Simmons
Artist’s bio
Jewel Simmons is a Fine Silver jewelry designer as well as an Abstract Expressionist painter. Previously her career included 35 years in graphic arts and publishing in Boston and Philadelphia.
The daughter of an engineer and clock maker, she developed an early fascination for watches and clocks.
“My father had his hands in clocks and watches all the time, and my mother is a creative, crafts oriented person. We were always creating things with our hands. Silver Clay enables me to form the resultant .999 Pure Fine Silver any way I like. The Purely Torn Metal™️pendants are my endeavor to manipulate the clay with my fingers, rather than cutting tools. The result is organic, unique and unexpected. The gemstones are often set using a ‘spider silk’ technique, to keep the setting delicate. My 17jewels Collection is driven by a desire to showcase the beauty and intricacy of watch workings. The earrings and pendants are impressions of the inside of my father’s extensive collection, and are proprietary.”
Jewel moved to South Carolina in order to convert a barn into her studio. “I feel like I’ve come home to everything I love.”
