Drawing the Human Figure (2026 monthly series)

Join artist/instructor, Kevin Anderson for a course focused on drawing the human figure using a classical technique with a live demonstrations and practical application of the concepts using a live model. 

​We will practice the classical concepts and techniques of the old masters to work on composition, proportion block-in, and form/volume building. We will use these learned techniques to bring our drawing in pencil, charcoal, pastel, and paint to the next level of artistic expression.

  • ​​​​​When: We meet for 5 hours per month from 9am-2pm, beginning Saturday June 20th, 2026 (then the 3rd Saturday of each month)

Who should take the class?

Anyone who wants instruction on how to classically draw (or paint) the human figure. The class is set up for students who want to devote time in 2026 to significantly improve their skills and to be able to execute figure drawings with much more confidence.

​​​​​What to expect during the class ….

  1. Instruction.Classical figure drawing terms, concepts, technique. Explained using original artwork and by the study of old masters.

  2. Guided learning. Instructor demonstration of each of the four key steps to drawing the figure.  

  3. ​​​Practice the technique. Students will spend the majority of the time practicing and drawing from a live model, putting into practice the class concepts, while the Instructor provides individual critique and guidance.

Materials:

​​​​​​For artists who are still working to master their figure drawing, strongly recommend that they use the graphite materials below, however people can bring their medium of choice (paint, pastel, etc.)

  • 3 pencils. Pencils with 3 lead softness.

    • ​​​​​1 – hard lead. “4H”, “2H”, or “H”

    • 1 – medium softness (HB or B)

    • 1 – soft (4B or 8B)

  • ​​​Kneaded Eraser 

  • Paper.   Recommend larger 24x18 paper. (Strathmore, Canson drawing paper). Newsprint quality is paper is perfectly fine. (Minimum size 11 x 14.)
